The new construction for a central European Research Department for Boehringer in Biberach, designed in 2005 by the Architects Sauerbruch Hutton und Partner in Berlin, stands out due to its extremely colourful outer shell made of motor-driven and fixed glass louvres. The vertical rotating glass louvres, approx. 800 x 1500 mm, alternate with fixed glass louvres, all in a previously defined colour concept by means of a 75% screen printing technique. The structural demands on the entire glass façade, which is separated by a maintenance walkway from the main building, were met on each level in the concrete ceiling between the storeys.
